Saral Shiksha Yojna is an unofficial, alumni-built revision site for IIIT-H courses. This page explains, in plain language, what data the site stores, what leaves your device, and what role third parties play. We've kept the site deliberately minimal — the short version is: we have no accounts, your study progress stays on your device, and the only third party involved is Google — for aggregate analytics and ads.

Data we collect ourselves

We have no account system, no login, no contact form, and no server-side database of users, and we don't run our own analytics server or store your data ourselves. The site is statically generated and served as plain HTML, CSS and JavaScript. To understand aggregate usage we use Google Analytics, described in its own section below.

Data stored on your device

The site uses your browser's localStorage to remember things like:

Which chapters you've marked finished
Your flashcard review history (for spaced repetition)
Topics you've tagged as weak
Sample-paper scores you've entered
Your theme preference (light / dark / system)

This data never leaves your device. We can't see it. Clearing your browser's site data, or using a private/incognito window, will erase it. We provide a manual export/import feature on the progress page so you can move your data between devices yourself.

Google Analytics

We use Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-3JQ4WJMPHG) to understand how the site is used in aggregate — which pages are popular, roughly how many people visit, and what devices and browsers they use. This helps us decide which courses to prioritise next. Google Analytics sets cookies and collects data such as a truncated version of your IP address, your device and browser type, and the pages you view; that data is processed by Google on our behalf. We only ever look at it in aggregate — we don't attempt to identify individual visitors.

You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely with Google's official browser add-on at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. If you visit from the European Economic Area, the UK, or Switzerland, you can also decline via the consent dialog described below.

Google AdSense (ads and cookies)

The site is supported by Google AdSense. Google and its ad-tech partners may set cookies in your browser to serve and measure ads. This is how the site pays for hosting — we don't see what any individual user is shown, and we don't receive personal information about you from Google.

If you visit from the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, you'll see a consent dialog (Google's certified consent management platform) before personalized ads are served. You can choose "Do not consent" to receive non-personalized ads instead.

You can review or change Google's ad personalization settings for your account at myadcenter.google.com. Google's overall privacy practices are documented at policies.google.com/technologies/ads.

Hosting and logs

The site is a static build hosted by a standard web host. Like every web host, it receives the usual request metadata (IP address, user agent, referrer) when your browser fetches a page. These request logs are used only for delivery and basic abuse protection. We don't combine them with any user identity (we don't have one) and we don't use them for analytics.

Children

The site is aimed at university-level students. We don't knowingly collect data from children under 13 — though, as noted above, we don't collect data from anyone in the first place.

Changes to this policy

If we ever start collecting data ourselves, or add another third-party service, we'll update this page and bump the "Last updated" date above. Material changes (new tracking, new data sharing) will be called out at the top of the page.
